The traffic you never see
Your website gets visitors you'll never meet. Much of the traffic hitting a small business site is automated: bots scanning for old plugins, guessing login pages, and scraping content. It's constant, and it's invisible to the owner. Most small sites have no firewall, no filter, and nobody watching the door.
You don't have to be a big company to be a target. Bots don't pick targets by size. They pick whatever is easy.
What Cloudflare actually does
Cloudflare sits in front of your website, like a front desk. Visitors reach Cloudflare first, and it passes the good traffic through to your site. That one change adds:
- Attack protection. Floods of fake traffic meant to knock your site offline get absorbed before they reach your host.
- Bot and threat filtering. Known bad actors and suspicious requests get blocked or challenged.
- Secure connections. The padlock (SSL/TLS) is handled for you, so visitors aren't greeted by "Not secure."
- Speed. Images and pages are cached on servers closer to your visitors, so the site loads faster.
- Safer DNS. Your domain's records are managed in one place, with protections that make them harder to tamper with.
No move, no rebuild
This is the part most owners don't expect. Your website stays where it is. Squarespace, WordPress, Wix, or a custom site: it keeps running on the same host. What changes is your domain's DNS, which now points through Cloudflare. For most small businesses, Cloudflare's free plan covers the essentials.
How we set it up
We review your current DNS, move it to Cloudflare without downtime, turn on the protections that fit your site, and confirm your website and email both work afterward. It's a one-time setup, starting at $250.
